COMAH Systems

The aim of the Control of Major Accidents Hazards Regulations (COMAH) is to prevent major accidents involving dangerous substances and limit the consequences to people and the environment. Dangerous substances will include those that are toxic, oxidizing, explosive, flammable or otherwise dangerous to the environment.

Compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) may not satisfy the requirements of COMAH. The PSSR is aimed at preventing a dangerous occurrence from the release of stored energy and the scalding affects of steam. They do not consider the danger from the release of hazardous contents. LMP are experienced in writing Written Schemes of examination to assist our clients in meeting the additional inspection requirements that may be required under COMAH.

COMAH affects industries, where threshold quantities of dangerous substances identified in the Regulations are kept or used.

This could be the chemical industry (manufacturing or storage), pharmaceutical industry, explosives and nuclear sites but may affect any industry which utilizes dangerous substances within it process.
