Risk Based Inspection

Risk Based inspection is the process of generating an inspection plan based on the findings of a risk analysis/assessment of the equipment.

The purpose of the risk assessment is to identify the degradation/failure mechanisms that may act upon the equipment. It will also take into account the consequence of failure of the equipment.

The goal of RBI is to guide the inspection process to identify potential equipment failure before it happens.

The outcome of an RBI process may be:-

  • A recommendation to modify the equipment
  • An increase or decrease of the inspection interval
  • A change in the method of inspection; increased NDT etc
  • An improvement of maintenance routines

We utilise our own in-house software to generate RBI assessments where no site system is in place.
