Fitness for Service

Fitness for service studies can be carried out on equipment to confirm acceptability for further use.

The use of a relevant design code, together with aspects of “API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, Fitness-For-Service, Second Edition” are the key supporting documents to the process.

The possible outcomes of a fitness for service assessment are;:-

  • Confirmation that the equipment is fit for continued service
  • Recommendation that the equipment requires remedial work before it is returned to service
  • That the equipment should be re-rated in order to allow its return to service
  • That the equipment should be retired
